Want to feel more in control? DO THIS to avoid self-sabotage!
I was working with a client last week and she said she wanted to feel more in control. I bet a lot of us can relate. Usually when we aren’t hitting out health goals, or any goal really, we tend to feel out of control.
Whether that is eating things that don’t make us feel good, snacking too much, eating late at night, drinking soda or too much alcohol. Basically, not taking care of ourselves the way they would like to be. Unconsciously overindulging often leaves us feeling out of control.
How do we take our power back? How do we put ourselves back in the driver’s seat so we don’t feel like we are running on autopilot straight into self-sabotage?
Next time one of these situations arise, I want you to do the following:
-Pause. Stop what you are doing to break the association. Even if you follow through in the end, acknowledge the trigger.
-Make it conscious. The things we do on autopilot are in the subconscious so bring your awareness to it. Acknowledge it. This will make it harder to ignore.
-Ask yourself why you are doing it? What do you want to feel by doing it? Is there anything else (helpful) you could do instead to feel that way?
-Remind yourself (over and over, if you must) that you are in control. Whether you decide to change it now or not, remember you are in control. Do it consciously and you will know you are in control.
-How badly do you want to change it on a scale from 0-10? If you answer a 7 or above, I can help!
